These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the RoadMates mobile application and related services. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use RoadMates.
1. Who can use RoadMates
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, whichever is higher. You must provide accurate account information and keep your password secure. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
2. What RoadMates is — and isn't
RoadMates is a platform that helps people plan road trips and find travel companions. We are not a transport provider, a travel agency or an insurer. We do not organise trips, vet drivers or vehicles, and we are not a party to any arrangement you make with other users. Any trip you take is between you and the other participants.
3. Safety and personal responsibility
Drive responsibly. Never interact with the app while driving. Navigation instructions, routes and estimated times are guidance only — road signs, traffic laws and your own judgement always take priority. Make sure your vehicle is roadworthy, properly insured and legally driven.
Meeting people from the internet carries risk. Use common sense: meet in public places, tell someone where you're going, and stop the trip if you feel unsafe. You travel with other users at your own risk.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, impersonate or discriminate against other users.
- Post content that is illegal, hateful, sexually explicit or infringes someone else's rights.
- Use RoadMates for commercial passenger transport or as a taxi service.
- Post spam, scams, or advertise unrelated products and services.
- Create fake accounts, or scrape, reverse-engineer or attack the service.
- Collect other users' personal data or share it outside the app without their consent.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of the trips, messages and photos you post. By posting them, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store and display that content for the purpose of operating the app — for example showing your trip in Explore or your photo in a shared album. This licence ends when you delete the content, apart from copies already shared with other participants or retained in backups for a limited period.
You are responsible for the content you post and confirm that you have the right to share it. We may remove content that breaks these Terms.
6. Costs shared between users
Participants may agree to share fuel, tolls or other trip expenses among themselves. RoadMates does not process, hold or guarantee these payments and takes no commission. Any dispute about money is between the users involved.
7. Suspension and termination
You can delete your account at any time from the app. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these Terms, puts other users at risk, or is used unlawfully. Where reasonable, we will tell you why.
8. Availability and changes
RoadMates is provided "as is" and "as available". We do our best to keep the service running, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access, and features may change, be added or be removed over time. Maps, routing and geocoding are supplied by third parties and may contain inaccuracies.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, RoadMates and its maintainers are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss, injury, accident, dispute or damage arising from a trip, from the conduct of other users, or from reliance on navigation data. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
10. Privacy
Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows the current version, and material changes will be announced in the app. Continuing to use RoadMates after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of RoadMates is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence continue to apply.
